Manage your mental health with these simple steps

October 10, 2020 By Vandana Anand Leave a Comment

Improved mental health is everybody’s right

In the last few years, mental health has increasingly become a topic of heated debate across the world.

The rise in the number of suicide cases, depression, anxiety and stress levels have led people across all spectrum to participate in the debate. But there is still taboo when it comes to sharing their personal mental health problems with the world. Why?

It is considered to be a weakness, a shame for the society to know about it.

I feel it is time for us to go beyond the debate. Reflect on our lifestyle, our actions and then act accordingly. We are just not living a mature lifestyle. Our work has taken precedence over everything in life – family, friends, health, food, and sleep. The race to earn money has pushed our lives to the brink. Worse we are still not realizing it. It is no longer a means to an end; it has become our life-blood.

The question is how long can we go ahead with this mindset and lifestyle?

If we all realize that mental health is a priority, then the time to act is NOW.

Change your lifestyle with these simple steps. I bet you, if you follow this, you will never ever face any mental health issue in life.

Wake up early: 4 am to 6 am is the most productive time of the day. Your energy levels are at its peak. Success comes to those who rise early. You are fresh, alert and brimming with ideas. Make a commitment to yourself and wake up at 4 am every day.

Meditate: waking up at 4 am does not mean you straightaway check your messages. Spend 1 hour in meditation. It is essential that you learn the meditation techniques from a trained teacher. Focus on your breath, and meditate. This is the most auspicious time of the day to meditate. Meditation keeps a check on your stress levels, keeps you calm from within. This stillness will give you stability for life making you a happy person. It helps build resilience within preparing you to deal with life challenges. Science has proved that meditation is the best medicine to keep you mentally healthy. With anger in control, you will react to every situation with compassion.

Journal: Another fulfilling morning habit to start your day on a positive note is journaling. Be grateful for what you have in life. It is one of the self-management techniques to keep your mind calmer, clearer and happier. Write about your dreams, your goals. This is a very habit that has powerful benefits. It will change the way you spend your day and your life.

Brisk walk for 30 minutes daily: Whether you walk, run or jog, 10,000 steps daily is a must. We all know the benefits of exercise, so just walk, burn calories and stay healthy.

Keep a check of what you are eating and when you are eating: You are what you eat, is an old adage. Keep a check of what you are consuming and measure its impact. Light, nutritious and timely food is a secret to long, and healthy life.

DE-clutter your thoughts: Thoughts play a big role in your life. All these lifestyle changes will go down the drain if your thought process is negative and harmful for others. Indulge in positive talks, with yourself as well as others.

Success begins by following these simple habits. Lifestyle changes like these will not only improve your mental health but also your physical and emotional health.
