Renowned filmmaker Basu Chatterjee passed away in Mumbai today following age-related ailments. He died of xx complications. Some of his best films include Choti Si Baat (1975), Chitchor (1976), Rajnigandha (1974), Baton Baton Mein (1979), Ek Ruka Hua Faisla (1986) and mnay more. He directed famous TV series Byomkehs Bakshi and Rajani that aired on Doordarshan
Chatterjee started his career as an illustrator and cartoonist with the weekly tabloid Blitz published in Bombay. He made his directorial debut with Film Sara Akash for which he won Best Screenplay Award. He won Film Critics award for best movie for Rajnigandha, Best Screenplay award for Choti Si Baat, Filmfare Best Director award for Swami, national Film Award for Durga in the category of Best Film on Family Welfare in 1992. In 2007 he won IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award. He is survived by his two daughters Sonali Bhattacharya and Rupali Guha.
