Actor turned politician Manoj Tiwari has been replaced as Chief of BJP in Delhi. Former Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, Adesh Kumar Gupta has taken over from Tiwari. The move comes after BJP’s disastrous performance in Delhi Assembly election early this year.
Manoj Tiwari joined BJP in 2013. He had contested election from Delhi and won in 2014. In 2016, Tiwari was appointed as Delhi BJP President. Taking responsibility of the defeat, he had offered to resign. BJP could win only 8 out of 70 seats. Under Tiwari, BJP had won in 2017 municipal polls and Lok Sabha elections from Delhi in 2019.
Gupta has been part of ABVP since 1987. He led BJP’s Yuva Morcha from 2004 to 2007. He has been appointed keeping 2022 corporation election in mind.
I am grateful to all workers, office-bearers and people of Delhi for their affection and co-operation in my three-and-a-half years as state president. I am sure Gupta will take everyone together.
